Date Night

Last night, Brad and I had our first romantic date in a loooong time, probably since we found out I was pregnant. He told me last week he wanted to take me out, so we arranged for Noah to hang out at my mom's. The whole night was supposed to be a surprise. He wouldn't tell me where he was taking me or what we were doing, just to be in a dress, which is really my favorite kind of date. No thinking on my end. :)

We dropped Noah off at my parents' house. Madison had stayed with us after school yesterday. I think her being there made the transition for him a little easier, since he was already used to being around her all day. Being the veteran babysitter that I am, I knew not to make a big "Bye Noah!! We're leaving you now!!" fuss. It always goes so much more smoothly when you just kiss them, then quietly walk away without making a huge thing out of it. And I was right. He only fussed twice the whole night. Once when he was hungry, and then the second time, when my mom didn't let him play in the bathtub long enough. Luckily, Madison has spent the night with us enough times to know what's wrong. She had to explain to my mom that we let him play for awhile. I'm sure it was also obvious, since he looked at my mom and got mad at her that all of the water was gone. lol. He's such a stinker.

Anyway, Brad took me to Dressler's, which for my out-of-state buds, is a very nice restaurant in Birkdale Village. He's taken me there a few times, but it's usually for a special occasion. We had low-country crab dip for an appetizer, a salad, and I got the herb-citrus salmon (he got a steak) for dinner. It was SO good. It was so nice to be dressed up again, make-up done, and be baby free.

We sat next to a couple who was celebrating their 32nd wedding anniversary.
I should probably mention here that I'm a terrible eavesdropper at restaurants. I do my best not to listen in, but if somebody's conversation catches my attention (and they're sitting right next to us), it's almost impossible for me not to listen in.
Anyway, they were definitely a very wealthy couple. The man was skinny with glasses, and the woman was larger and dressed very nice. And the way she talked was very proper, as if she were being interviewed. She actually reminded me a lot of the Barefoot Contessa on Food Network, but less smiley. She was going on about this wedding they'd just been to "on the Gulf", and how it made her miss her boys being with them. Apparently, her friend Susan brags to her about the vacations they still take with their whole family, and she had to admit, it makes her envious. She said it makes her sad that that time in their lives has past. She also actually muttered the phrase, "You know, I don't like to think of myself as a snob, but that place we went to..." blah blah blah. At that point, I got annoyed and checked out... which is probably good. But to make it up to them, I did wish them a happy anniversary when we were leaving.
I liked our waiter. He sounded Russian or Slovakian or something, which always makes me think of the villains in action movies. Russians don't get portrayed very well in American movies, do they? Well, this guy was very nice. Not villain material.

It had started storming last night when we dropped Noah off, and it was still storming when we left the restaurant. I wish we could've walked around some, but we did go over to Barnes and Noble to walk around. We looked at the kids books. We saw a dad walking around with his six month old boy, which of course made me miss Noah. He told us to keep up the date nights, that it's good for us. He was a nice guy. I also saw a dad sitting on the floor in the kids section with his little boy in his lap, reading a book to him. Every now and then, I'd hear the kid giggle. It was so sweet.

You would be proud of us. We only called to check on Noah twice. When we went to pick him up, he was playing on the floor (scooting around in circles) and being silly. He'd had a blast, which made me feel good. At least I know I can leave him there and won't have to worry about him. Doesn't mean I won't, though. :)
