So thanks for all of the advice yesterday. Truly. I'm always hesitant to ask the internet for opinions and advice, because well... you never know what you're going to get. But so far, it hasn't resulted in me wanting to crawl in a hole.
Anyway, I realized I needed to be a little more clear after my last post. I wasn't saying I wanted to stop therapy altogether. I just wasn't sure this particular method was best for Noah. I talked to Brad last night about everything going through my head. He agreed with me that speech therapy is the way to go. But at $68 a session? We'd all be living off of soup and ramen for the next 6 months.
I realized that there's no way other middle class families are paying that much. Something had to be wrong here. So I called our super awesome coordinator (seriously, I love this girl). I explained the situation and asked her if she knew what happened to make the price go up so much?
See, originally at our very first meeting, we were quoted half that price. Then the lady came for Noah's speech evaluation and gave us the new price.
Our coordinator mentioned that she was surprised to hear that figure as well. She agreed to call the lady and find out what happened. Within 10 minutes, she called me back and explained that the lady had quoted us the 100% price.
???
Okay. Why?
That price she quoted us was a make-or-break decision. We knew we couldn't afford that, so we opted for a cheaper therapy that included a little speech in there. Had we known the REAL price, we would've already signed up for speech.
Here's the thing.
It's very rare for me to not particularly care for a person. This speech eval lady? I didn't really care for her. I could tell she was annoyed that Noah didn't want to cooperate with her. She came off as cold; just there to do a job. She was nice enough, but for Noah to pay you some attention (or any toddler for that matter)? You best be oozing some sweetness. Then to top it off, she gives us an incorrect price that put off our decision to get him in Speech.
Anyway.
Our coordinator is awesome, did some snooping, and found out the actual price that we'd pay? It's more than half the 100% price. God's favor, y'all. That's all I'm saying.
So I'm feeling a culmination of annoyance, relief, and excitement. I guess it just goes to show that it never hurts to ask...

That is wonderful news! I had a feeling something was fishy with the amount you were paying. Speech is exactly what little Noah needs too.
If you don't like a therapist always always get a different one. It's a lesson we had to learn. The therapist will not be offended because sometimes a child and teacher just do not click. She will feel it too.
You have to be an advocate for your child now. It's a lot of work but you're up for it!! You're an awesome mom!
I'm so glad you got it figured out. Speech can be helpful, not the sessions themselves in that moment, but what we learn from the sessions to use all week long.
I've switched therapists as needed for Livie, because you have to like them. And your kid has to like them.
Go Hailey!
