I realize I haven't done a post about Noah lately.
Well, really they're all about Noah, I guess.
But a post about how he's doing, where he's at, etc.
Feel free to skip over this one if you like. It won't hurt my feelings. But I need to get this stuff documented before I forget.

Noah will be two and a half in a few days, which blows my mind.
It feels like within only a couple weeks, he went from this...

I can see the baby slipping away more and more and the kid taking its place. Last week, someone met him for the first time and commented on how he looks like a "little man".
I'm sure a lot of it has to do with his size. Most people think he's much older than he really is. I mean, the kid is 2 and wearing a 5T. Obviously, we have to roll up his pants a little, because he's not as tall as a 5 year old. But he's about the average size of an almost 4 year old. His feet are huge too. He's wearing a 9.5W. Amazing.
Brad and I aren't big people. I'm only 5'4", and he's around 5'8". But we have big guys on both sides of our families. Most of them are over 6' tall.

But while he's not as babyish in the looks department, I have to admit I'm treasuring the sweet baby personality he still has. Noah still has some confidence issues sometimes. He only recently let go of my hand to walk down the stairs for the first time. He was perfectly capable of doing so on his own. He would practically run over me, he'd go so fast. But he wasn't ready to let go yet. And that's fine with me. I'm thinking he's inherited my dependent nature.
He's still super cuddly. Granted, he's busy, but his favorite bedtime thing now is to crawl in bed with me and watch this lullaby-type channel (BabyFirstTV if you get it... their nighttime shows put him to sleep SO quickly).
As far as his speech development goes, he's getting a little better.
We've technically only had one speech therapy session (we had to cancel our last one). However, that hasn't stopped me from working with him. And just like I expected, something in his head is "clicking".
He now communicates mainly through sign language.
It's making his interpreter of a grandmother so incredibly proud.
Signs he knows:
..."more", "finished" (and says "all through" with it), "eat", "please", "milk", "thirsty", "cookie", "outside", "bye-bye", "mommy", "daddy", and the entire "Jesus Loves Me" song...
I made the mistake of pointing to my mouth once, enunciating "bubble" for him to try and repeat. Instead, he thinks the sign for bubble is pointing to his mouth. Whoops.

I think I'm forgetting a couple, but those are the main ones.
I find it fascinating that he's choosing sign language over speech right now.
The hard part is that he thinks everyone knows sign language. Thankfully, his teachers at church are familiar with some, so they know what he's saying most of the time.
We had his hearing tested this morning.
But first they had to clean out his ears... which meant strapping him down to the table so he wouldn't jerk and consequently hurt himself. Noah's not really the kind to throw a massive hissy fit, even if freaked out. What he does is much worse.
He looks at me, in the eye, and just cries. Doesn't fight. Doesn't scream.
Just has little tears rolling down his cheeks, pleading with me, with his eyes, to make them stop.
Ugh. It's heartbreaking.
The good news is that his ears are fine.
His hearing is perfect.
Even though I assumed as much, it's nice to be sure.

Food-wise, he's gotten pickier.
Right now, he's a vegetarian. He hates meat... I've even tried chicken nuggets. He also doesn't like any kind of tomato sauce foods... spaghetti, pizza, etc.
To his credit, he does sometimes try new foods, for the most part. He'll do a quick taste and then shake his head like I just fed him rocks. But it drives me crazy when he refuses to try something that I know he'll like... like popcorn. He's eaten it before and loved it. But now he won't touch it? I don't get it. What's really confusing is that he'll turn his nose up at mac 'n cheese (a kid staple) but LOVES raw pumpkin. In fact, if I mix it up with a little applesauce, he thinks it's dessert.
A few months ago, he would go through an entire bag of blueberries in a week.
Now he won't eat them. Toddlers are so weird.
Obviously, he still loves going outside. In fact, if we tell him "not right now", he falls to pieces. Friday night, my little sister babysat him while we went on a date. Noah kept signing outside to her, and when we got home, he started crying because we wouldn't let him go out.
His tantrums are still pretty mild. Actually, I can handle the angry ones. Brad and I think he's absolutely adorable when he throws a tantrum... probably because it totally clashes with his real personality. He does this weird chattery type thing when he's upset... like he's trying to explain to us why life isn't fair... but it comes out like, "A-tee-dee-tee..." We just stifle our laughs, ignore the fits, and he quits in two seconds. The ones that get me? The broken-hearted cries. The ones with real tears and a boo-hoo face. Those are usually because someone hurt his feelings. He just has such a sweet personality that it breaks my heart when he's sad.
As for favorite shows and toys, he's still on his Curious George obsession. But we've moved on to the world of trains. He loves Thomas. He also likes the Baby Einstein dvds. We've tried Sesame Street, and he'll tolerate Elmo for a little bit, but that's as far as it goes. Actually, he likes Mr Noodle more than Elmo.
His favorite toys at the moment are cars, his Doodle-Pro (anyone else still call it a magna-doodle? am I the only one?), his plastic animals ($1-$2.50 at the Target dollar spot), tractors, sand box, his Melissa & Doug toys, and of course, dirt. He loves to go to the park and swing.
He's such a sweet, sweet boy.
While I do feel like I'm losing my baby, I'm excited to see how his little personality continues to grow.

My finger accidentally hit the 'blah' box!!!!!!! Oh my gosh I feel so bad!!!! Try to delete it.
This post was nothing close to BLAH! I loved it. Noah is such a sweetie and I am so mad at myself for not making a bigger effort to drop by when we are in Charlotte just to say hi. We are always so pressed for time, but seriously, y'all live 5 minutes from my parents!!!
I think it is SO incredible that he signs. I never introduced it with Brinley and I wish I did a few signs especially before any 'words' came out.
....PS your skills with that camera, giiiiiirl. So beautiful!
LOL and this is Meagan. Not ry dog lol
He sounds like such a doll! As long as he is communicating that's all that matters. The speech is going to come. I bet he'll start talking in the next couple months!~
Gabe doesn't eat meat. Or anything with sauce. Or flavor. His pasta must be plain. No butter. No sauce. No oil. Plain. Boring.
Just this year he started eating pizza. But he'll only eat pepperoni from this one pizzeria. Yet he'll eat an entire bag of Steamers broccoli in one sitting. Himself. Same with peas, green beans, lima beans, and any fruit.
He won't eat cake.
Kids are WEIRD. Liv ate everything in sight a month ago, but lately has subsisted on buttered toast, yogurt, and frozen blueberries. They all figure it out eventually. And how they eat as toddlers? Rarely reflects how they eat as kids. Cass was a very picky toddler, but now eats everything.
