Normally when we go to the park, Noah plays with the dirt or runs around the fountain. Sometimes he'll play on the playplace contraptions if there aren't many kids on them. And of course, he loves to swing. But mostly, he just keeps to himself. Don't get me wrong, he's definitely a social little booger. He's just always been extra cautious about heights and getting knocked over by bigger kids.
Anyway, I asked Noah while we were hanging by the fountain, if he'd like to go swing. He immediately hopped up and ran for the playground... clear across the park. I know this sounds like no big deal, but my heart was filled with so much hope. He completely understood what I'd asked him, the first time I asked it.
He's been doing that a lot lately, which is SO GREAT. If I ask him if he needs a diaper change, he'll plop himself on the floor and lay back for me to change him. Again, so exciting.
After pushing him on the swings for what felt like all afternoon, he was finally ready to get down. And completely out of the blue, he decided he was ready for the big kid play thingy. This thing doesn't have any steps, and it's very high. The platform is as tall as me, and the only way to get up there is by ladders. Didn't phase him in the least. He had made his mind up that he was ready to tackle it.
He's climbed ladders before, with our help, but they were much shorter. This was a huge accomplishment for him. Thankfully, both Brad and Chase were there to help document. :)
Needless to say, this was perfect timing.
While we had our fun over the weekend... lots of parties, outdoor concerts, and splash pads... I don't think any of that beat what was in store for him when we got home on Sunday.
My dad finally finished fixing pieces of the swing set, and came over with my uncle and little cousin yesterday to put it together.
(To catch people up... my dad had bought us a really nice swing set when we were younger, but once we outgrew it, he let my baby cousins use it. It's been sitting in what they call "the hole" at my aunt and uncle's house for the last several years. My dad is a master craftsman when it comes to building cabinets, furniture, and random projects like this. So he finally got it completed! Yay!)
It was great timing, since the only way to get up it is to climb a ladder. I think Noah might have gone up and down that thing a ballion times. To say he loves it is an understatement. And I love it because it's something else fun to do back there besides bouncing Noah on the trampoline for two hours straight (want a workout? Get a 50lb weight and try bouncing it on a trampoline....).
Dodger was totally impressed with Noah's climbing skills.
It also has a cute tire swing attached to the bottom. Noah thought that was pretty cool. :)
(sorry about Flash's heiney in the background...)
As for the big kid swings?
Well, let's just say... we're working on it.
As an added bonus... and because my dad happens to be one of the best granddaddys ever... they also hauled over 5 bags of play sand.
That oughta hold Noah over for a while. :)
Hope everyone else had a fabulous weekend too!!
